Set up MX so email gets delivered
MX records, propagation, and a delivery test.
MX records
MX records tell the internet which servers should receive mail for your domain. Without them, the mailbox exists but messages never arrive.
- In the dashboard, go to Email or Domains and open the domain DNS settings.
- Copy the MX records (and related ones, such as SPF if the dashboard shows them) exactly as listed.
- If DNS is in Pluxion, add or enable them there. If DNS is at another provider, paste them there.
- Remove old MX from another email provider if you no longer use it. Two conflicting MX sets often break delivery.
Do not invent priorities or hostnames. Use only what Pluxion shows.
Propagation
Just like the site, email changes take time to show everywhere. It can be minutes or hours. Meanwhile some messages arrive and others do not. Annoying, but temporary.
Avoid changing MX over and over. Make one clean change and wait.
Test
- From an external account (Gmail or another), send a message to your @yourcompany mailbox.
- Open it in webmail.
- Reply and confirm the other inbox receives it without a bounce.
- If it fails, check DNS health, leftover old MX, and that the mailbox is active.
If the site loads but email does not, it is almost always MX/SPF, not hosting.
Tip
Write "email on Pluxion" in a team note. When someone touches DNS "just for a minute", they will know what not to delete.
