FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

What record types can I create?

A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, NS, SRV and CAA, with any TTL between 60 seconds and 24 hours. Each type is validated differently: IPs are really checked, MX and SRV require a priority, and a CNAME that clashes with another record on the same name is rejected before it saves.

How long does a change take to apply?

Publishing is immediate: on save we rebuild the whole zone and push it to both authoritative servers, notifying them of the change. What can lag afterwards is the cache of internet resolvers, and you control that by lowering the TTL before you touch anything.

Can I move my DNS without breaking email?

That's exactly what the pre-scan is for. Before touching anything we read your public zone — the domain plus 23 common subdomains — and show you the list so you can choose what to bring. You import your records, we publish the email ones, and only then do you switch nameservers.

Do I have to use your nameservers?

No. If you'd rather keep your current DNS, we work out the exact list of records for your domain — the site's A record, the www CNAME, the MX, the SPF, the DKIM and the DMARC — with the value already resolved and a copy button on each. And if you do delegate to us, you can leave whenever you like.

Why are there records I can't edit?

Because they're the ones holding your email up: the DKIM signature, the MAIL FROM and the autoconfiguration CNAMEs. They show with a lock in the table and the API rejects changes too, so there's no way to delete them by accident. The rest of the zone is entirely yours.

Can I take my zone somewhere else?

Yes, any time. You export the whole zone as a standard BIND file and download it: it's the same format every DNS provider accepts. There's no lock-in and no paperwork, and switching the domain's DNS provider is a setting in the panel.
